This is a picture of my Granddad and Meme.
Today we say our final good byes to her at her funeral. Meme has suffered with Alzheimer's for almost half my life. I know she is much better off now and so happy to be back with my Granddad again.
They are the reason I'm "un-American" and don't eat watermelon! I'll never forget playing in the kiddy pool behind their house and eating watermelon one summer when I was a girl. Needless to say I got extremely sick on the melon and have NEVER wanted a bite since.
Meme is the reason I have grey hair and don't really mind, except when my husband makes a big deal about it and points them out! She was completely grey in her twenties; I've had some grey since I was 15.
I can't think about fruit roll ups or Pringles without thinking of Meme. The pantry right behind them was always stocked up with treats for my brother and me. They could cook a great roast and we always had lots of Mac and Cheese at their house.
My first paying job was driving a tractor, raking hay behind their house. I'll never forget that day either.
So many memories and emotions this week as we say good bye, till we meet again.
God bless you all,Janice.
ReplyDeleteSending prayers and lots of hugs.
I am sorry for your loss, but you are right. She is in a better place and I truly believe that she is with your grandpa.
ReplyDeleteSounds like some wonderful memories. I too just lost my mother, after having been suffering from Alzheimer's for over 10 years, just a couple weeks ago. It's quite bittersweet, because I feel like I actually lost her a long time ago. Now that I don't have to worry about her, I'm free to remember the good times again, like you are doing.
ReplyDeleteOh bless your heart!!! Sending hugs and prayers!!
